The Anchorage Public Health Clinic offers services related to the testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
At the Anchorage Public Health Clinic, we can test for a variety of infections. Counseling and confidential (private) testing for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and other STIs are provided by trained staff who are sensitive to your needs and concerns.
For gonorrhea and chlamydia, we can use a urine sample or swab for testing. If the test shows an infection, we will offer you treatment and explain how your partner(s) can be treated.
For testing involving urine samples, including chlamydia and gonorrhea, do not urinate or have sex or sexual contact for one hour before testing.
Some — but not all — STI tests require a genital exam. Staff will discuss this with you during your appointment.
Treatment (antibiotics) will be provided for syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, bacterial vaginosis, yeast, and trichomoniasis infections. Referrals for treatment are provided for Hepatitis C and HIV infections.
Our staff are happy to discuss infections, testing, and treatment with you in more detail. Call 343-4799 to make an appointment.
